| Customer Reviews: hisses and shuts off July 31, 2010 P. Janes 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have had my IonicproTurbo for over a year. It worked great for a few months, but then it started hissing and shutting off after a few seconds. Eventually, it wouldn't operate at all, and the "clean me" light would come on a few seconds after I plugged it in. Finally, I took it to an auto repair shop and blew the dust out with compressed air. After that, it would work but, it still hisses. Now, it runs for 7 seconds and shuts off for 3 seconds. The ionizing wire glows in the dark. I suspect the problem is that the wire has eroded, and not it is too thin. The thinner the wire, the more it ionizes the air, which means more current. It probably shuts off because of excessive current drain thru the ionizing wire. (I understand this stuff because I'm kind of a genius.)
Now, I'm looking for replacement parts. The ionizing wire should be sold separately or as an assembly together with the tension spring on the end. If I can't find it that way, I'll have to measure the wire thickness with a micrometer and make my own from wire stock. I'm not sure what metal the original is made of, or if there is a better alternative.

Does what it should. I bought two, one for myself and one as a gift. You can smell fresh air coming from the unit which is a plus.
Only con is the internal slight shocking sound it sometimes makes when it's time to clean, but it also automatically shuts off when it knows it needs to be cleaned.

I just purchased this item yesterday to replace a six year old Ionic Pro that had finally given up the ghost. The previous Ionic Pro gave me excellent service and I am very impressed with this new Turbo model.
I am a heavy smoker who is disabled and I spend most of my time in one room. It took only a few hours after my original filter's death to know I had to replace it immediately. I turned on the new unit yesterday afternoon and in half hour the room was smelling fresh as a daisy.
My wife has allergies and we have tried the HEPA air filters with replaceable filters. The filters were quite expensive and never seemed to last very long. After a year or so, if the noisy fan doesn't go out, the stores stop stocking your filter and it doesn't matter because its cheaper to buy a whole new unit than replace the filter.
I like to run a filter in the bedroom as it helps my wife's allergies so I'll be purchasing another of these units to replace the old one in the bedroom. I'll definitely go with the Ionic Pro Turbo.
Don't count on the warranty or customer service December 3, 2007 OKCPA (Tulsa, OK) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
I have an Ionic Pro Turbo and it will not stay on for more than a couple of hours before it shuts itself off. It is 2 months old and should be under warranty. I have called 1-800-875-8577 and they ask me to call that same number back but select option 1 for "retail purchase". I tried numerous times but no answer. I emailed and they gave me another number 1-800-554-6051 and they too told me I had to call 1-800-875-8577 and select option 1. After much persistance, I have now reached a live person twice, but both times, they disconnected me after I explained my problem. There is no doubt that they have no intention of honoring their warranty and it is too late to return to the store. Beware this product! Every time I have talked to someone, it has obviously been a call center in India. As an added comment, the blue light is so bright that it is distracting in the bedroom. You'll have to cover it up.
awful April 11, 2007 BAM (Upstate NY) 14 out of 17 found this review helpful
AWFUL!! at the time i bought this there weren't any reviews to read so i bought it 'blindly'. furthermore, i did not order from amazon...that was my second mistake!! this thing is large, bulky and produces a weird odor (i guess they call it an ozone smell, but whatever it was it was totally undesireable to me!!). i used it for 2 nights and both mornings i woke up all stuffed up and with a headache. the 3rd night i turned it off after about 2 hours and my stuffiness disappeared. i did this twice, just to be SURE. the blue 'on' light is very bright at night which i didn't care for. i have heard others say that there is a strange buzzing/snapping noise after a few days of use and this did not disappear after cleaning it. i didn't experience that but i didn't have it long enough before knowing i wanted to send it right back where it came from!! i bought this product directly from the ionic pro turbo dealer. the shipping took almost a month (i even paid for a 'rush' delivery), plus the shipping costs were awful!! then i ended up sending it back making the shipping costs even higher. so, to make a long story short, it cost about $70 to TRY this product out (it has a 30-day FREE(??) trial)!!! shipping costs are not refundable (at least when buying direct). i didn't use amazon to buy this, but i learned my lesson this time...from now on, i will depend on amazon like i usually do :))
